Dear Parents and Students:

We are happy to report that the Associated Student Body (ASB) Community Service Committee is growing every year, we had more than 1100 students participating in volunteer work. There were 900 students with 15 hours or more of community service credits and more than 200 contributing at least one hour, a huge success and a job WELL DONE! We appreciate your valuable time.

You are invited to help us, as we continue to grow, by participating in our projects this year.

Our goal is to have a minimum of 1,300 active volunteers. We exceeded our projection of 850 active participants last year and believe that we can reach and/or exceed our goal next year. In order to accomplish this, we NEED your help!

Students who complete a minimum of fifteen hours of community service, PER SEMESTER, will earn a Certificate of Appreciation, which will be presented during the spring semester. Volunteer hours completed during the spring will be recognized during the fall of the following year. Community service credits will appear on student transcripts and report cards in the form of CR. Hours completed will not be indicated on the transcript, but will be kept in a personal file and added to the awards list. To ensure that students receive proper credit ALL hours MUST be turned in THREE weeks before the end of each semester.

This year we 83 students complete 100 hours or more and were recognized at our second annual President's Volunteer Service Awards and received certificates signed by the President of the United States. To be eligible for a President's Volunteer Service Award, students must complete 100 hours of community service within a year. The hours counted for this award must be completed during the first semester. Second semester hours will be included in the following year, due to the fact that certificates must be ordered months in advance. Hours completed during the summer can be included in the total for the year. To receive credit, students MUST turn in summer hours during the Fall Semester. We will accept hours that are noted on letterhead stationery and signed by a supervisor who verifies your work. We anticipate giving more of these awards next year.

There are many opportunities for students to get involved. Listed below are campus locations where students can check current announcements or pick up community service activity packets:
  • Daily Bulletin notices (available in period 2 classes or in any house office);
  • Glass display case outside the Career Center, Room 292;
  • Career Center, Main Office, or Houses A, B and C.
On-going weekly activities available for student participation include sandwich making for the homeless on Thursdays and tutoring elementary students at the Maple Center.

Join us in the rewarding benefits received while helping others!
